If you’re looking for something fun, exciting, and unique to do in Rhode Island – I highly recommend checking out Rail Explorers USA in Portsmouth, RI.
Ride the rails on their “pedal-powered Rail Explorers” and experience the magic of the railroad like never before, and you’ll also get to enjoy the incredibly unique views as you ride alongside the Narragansett Bay.
One thing that I found pretty interesting, is that there are ONLY THREE “Rail Explorer” locations nation-wide. Las Vegas, New York, and Rhode Island. This is quite the experience that you do not come by often, and I think this is a fun and exciting activity that everyone in Rhode Island should know about.
The good part – Everyone can enjoy this activity: couples young or old, groups of friends, and families of ALL ages and abilities. The Rail Explorers are easy to pedal, with a mostly flat terrain, and an incredible view. They also allow you to bring coolers with food and drink on the Rail Explorers (TIP: bring water bottles to stay hydrated).
Rail Explorers USA offers multiple types of tours, so you won’t be doing the same tour each time. You get a different atmosphere with each tour they offer. Like a Sunset Tour where you can catch the beautiful sunset over the Narragansett Bay, or a Sunday morning Brunch Tour where you ride along the Southern Circuit to Bayside Station for some mimosas and a light brunch.
Lastly, the staff at Rail Explorers were super nice and very informative. Any questions you had for them, they had the answers for you. They really made you feel safe and everything was extremely well organized. From checking in, to riding the shuttle to the rail explorer cart, the whole day went smoothly.
