The huge smokestack marks the spot – Pivotal Brewery in Bristol, anchoring an historic industrial park which has been renovated into a collection of food and drink on active Wood Street.
First, I am not a beer person. But Pivotal Brewery came on to my radar back in February when I saw their Mardi Gras party on Instagram. They had created a King Cake Stout, a rich and delicious stout pushing notes of cinnamon, vanilla, and a hint of coffee and with each stout, a free piece of King Cake which is essential to any true Mardi Gras party.
The 8,000 square foot space is filled with couches, tables and chairs of all shapes and sizes. My favorite time to visit is in the afternoon where you’ll find people relaxing and playing some of the board games provided or corn hole in this family and dog friendly place. Immersing themselves in the community, the brewery has offered a Yappy Hour to support a local shelter to a networking night to local artists performing. Local menus are available to bring food in and they have had some good food trucks there as well.
This summer Pivotal also offered amazing beer slushies like Pineapple Mango and Chocolate Cherry which was also quite attractive to a non-beer person. My husband, however, loves beer and liked their IPAs from mild to dark to fruity. A small has been priced at $3 and you can get a nice sampler in a cupcake pan or try a larger glass or cans to go. They are always creating seasonal favorites with about 20 beers at any given time and the staff can explain the depths of their talents to the most accomplished beer aficionado.
Pivotal Brewery is at 500 Wood Street, beneath the giant smokestack. Follow them on social or sign up to see what’s brewing at PivOtalBrewing.com. Taproom Hours are Mon, Wed, Thu 4-9p, Fri 1-10p, Sat 12-10p and Sun 12-7p. Closed Tuesday.
