How to Survive Rhode Island’s Scariest Haunted House: Dark New England

Halloween decorations are creeping across your lawn, your costume is ready for an all Hallow’s Eve debut, and you’ve watched all the scary movies your dark heart can handle…Now what is a ghoul to do besides wait for All Hallow’s Eve?!

Get out of your haunted abode with friends, family, or your BOO, and go explore the Dark New England Haunted Trail in East Providence, Rhode Island – IF YOU DARE! Not to be confused with The 1780 New England Dark Day (history lesson, anyone?), this must-visit local attraction has been a Fall-season staple for the past 15 years.

Over the past 15 years, Harrison Ingham’s passion for Halloween has grown from a walkway decoration project to a masterclass in scare tactics that’s now solidly attended by thousands! How?

Here’s a little history from the man who runs the show:

“15+ years ago I started all of this when I would decorate my father’s walkway to the door which at the door you would receive a king-size candy bar because I knew from experience that PEOPLE ALWAYS CAME BACK TO THE HOUSE WITH THE BIG CANDY BARS ON HALLOWEEN. 🎃…As years passed I came across the opportunity to purchase the remaining contents of the LAKEVILLE HAUNTED HOUSE before they tore down the Ted Williams camp in Lakeville Massachusetts along with a few yard haunts that were no longer doing their displays. This gave me what I needed to not only fill my yard but turn it into a full scale yard haunt that everyone around ended up becoming familiar with to the point where people traveled from all over just to come see our display with live actors, fog, strobes, anamatronics, music, sounds lighting and most importantly THE KING SIZE CANDY BARS THAT STARTED IT ALL! 🎃 All of which we did FOR FREE for everyone nomatter what they had going on in life this was one place ANYBODY AND EVERYBODY WAS WELCOMED.

It wasn’t up until last year when we put on our largest most interactive, detailed yard display ever with over 17 people in my father’s yard acting or working the front lines(huge accomplishment considering I started it alone with my father being my only help and then my handful of cousins nextdoor a few years later). I got a call over the radio to come see the line of people. So I came out from the haunt and looked up the street where all I seen was a sea of people from my gate all the way down to the end of the road and then wrap around and kept forming towards the highway ramp. (I had to run up the line just to see this for myself) sooo many kids, family’s, friends, fellow haunters all at my yard haunt to show us love. This was not only amazing and a top life momment but gave me the fuel for the fire I had burning inside. 🔥 At the end of the two nights that we were open, our final count was just shy of 2,000 people in only 2 nights which was a total of 8 hours. Pretty insane for a dead end street in the middle of nowhere at a back yard haunt…”
